Special education has students of varying interests and levels of abilities – just like every class at NHS. The challenge is to meet those with resources that may not fit the needs. Funding the purchase of resources and encouraging students, provides an opportunity to open the door to success – a window to broaden ideas, shore up skills, and launch a life. An easy way to engage students is in a read-share with a peer or two. With a quick “speed read” of a chapter or two, students can easily decide what they would like to read. Chapters are readily available by the publishers. Another way is being a part of a writer’s workshop to study craft, model text, and respond and reflect on the author’s intent and purposes.
