Norcross, GA – June 9, 2017 –
The Norcross High School Foundation for Excellence is excited to
announce that they have recently received two very distinguished grants
totaling $22,500. First, the Community Foundation of Northeast Georgia
awarded the NHS Foundation a $10,000 grant, and most recently, The
Waffle House Foundation awarded a $12,500 grant to the NHS Foundation.
Both
of these grants have been awarded to help support the NHS Foundation’s
After School Matters program – a program that targets academically
at-risk 9th and 10th grade students with limited family economic
resources. The mission of the program is to raise the graduation rate
and prepare students for a career or college path. The vision of the
program is to increase a student’s engagement with school, cultivate
talent, lift self-confidence, and decrease the likelihood of risky
behaviors.
“This is why we do what we do,” said Randy Redner,
executive director of the Community Foundation of NE Georgia. “We are
surrounded by many incredible nonprofits doing incredible work each and
every day. To be able to support some of them in the work they do, to
help them impact even more people and change even more lives – that is
part of our mission at the Community Foundation.”
This year has
been the highest revenue-generating year to date for the NHS Foundation
for Excellence. The NHS Foundation has raised more than $220,000
thanks to the generous support of our community donors, our parent
supporters, our yearly fundraising Gala, and from numerous grants. The
funds raised support Foundation programs such as Classroom Grants,
Instructional Funds, Teacher Support and Recognition, as well as next
year’s Capital focus, which will be to increase access to technology
for all students in the classroom. We are fortunate to live in a
community that values the teachers’ and the administration’s hard work
and recognizes their dedication to the students.
The mission of
the Norcross High School Foundation for Excellence is to ensure the
success of all students at Norcross High School by building community
support and by raising funds to cultivate excellence in academics, arts,
and athletics. Since the inception of the Foundation in 2001, over
$1.8 million has been raised and invested in the school to elevate
teaching and learning in the classroom, expand fine arts opportunities,
and support athletic programs and extracurricular activities.
