Dan Byrne
Dan Byrne has taught for over 30 years in metro Atlanta and has been a teacher at Norcross High School since 2009. He has been the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Coordinator since 2016. During his time at Norcross, he has taught Honors United States History, AP United States History, IB Theory of Knowledge, and IB History of the Americas. Dan earned Bachelor of Arts Degrees in History and Social Studies Education from Syracuse University, a Masters in Education from Oglethorpe University, and a Specialist in Education from Piedmont College. During his time as an educator, he has been honored as Norcross High School Teacher of the Year, named a two-time STAR Teacher, and awarded a yearbook dedication. He also served as Social Studies Department chair. Dan was a high school soccer coach from 1998-2012. He was also a high school girls cross country coach for nine years. During that time, his teams won three consecutive cross country State Championships, were runner-up three times, and won six Region Championships. He was named Gwinnett County Girls Coach of the Year and two-time Atlanta Track Club Coach of the Year. Dan and his wife, Dr. Melinda Byrne—who taught at Norcross High School for 16 years—are proud parents of three daughters in the Norcross cluster. Their children attend Norcross High School, Pinckneyville Middle School, and Baldwin Elementary, where their youngest is enrolled in the Dual Language Immersion Program. Melinda is an entrepreneur and business owner, leading a team of more than 20 women. Dan lives in Peachtree Corners, serves on the Administrative Council at Simpsonwood United Methodist Church and enjoys running, cooking, spending time with his family, walking his dogs, and traveling internationally.
