The Norcross High School Foundation was thrilled to be the recipient of a $7,500 grant from the John and Mary Franklin foundation for the After School Matters program. After School Matters (ASM) is a teacher-led after school tutoring and mentoring program for at-risk 9th and 10th graders. NHS teachers work with students to develop study and organizational skills, promote consistent relationships, and expose them to extra-curricular activities that will increase engagement. The program has seen measurable success with 89 percent of ASM students passing all core subject classes by year’s end, increasing substantially from 10 percent¹ at the start of the school year. ASM aims to improve grades and graduation rate, with a long-term goal to prepare students for a career, military service or post-secondary education. The John and Mary Franklin foundation focuses its giving for education, scientific research, health, youth services, and the arts. NHSFE is grateful for their support of the important service provided by the After School Matters Program.
